Asbestos Found at Albion Normal School

According to reports, asbestos and lead have been discovered at the Albion Normal School in Albion, Idaho.

The asbestos school has long been closed, though health officials are worried that the findings could be harmful to local residents.

Developers have supposedly created a plan to remove the substances from the property by early summer.

Asbestos Found Causes Concern

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality reportedly found the asbestos, which was located in different four buildings on the school’s campus.

“Based on known concentrations, there is the potential for workers and those people visiting the site to be exposed to lead from dust,” explains the DEQ.

Although the school was closed in 1971, the alumni association still operates a museum on the campus, youth track is held on the property and several social events take place there.

Asbestos Used in Construction of School

Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been linked to various forms of cancer throughout the last few decades.

The substance was reportedly used in the construction of the school buildings.
