Asbestos Awareness Week Gets Recognition

The United States Senate decided to designate the first week of April as National Asbestos Awareness Week.

The plaintiffs’ firm based in South Carolina, Motley Rice LLC, has voiced their support of the week and is stressing the importance of continued research on asbestos and asbestos related illnesses.

Asbestos Affecting Lives

Ron Wood, a client at Motley Rice, has been diagnosed with asbestosis and is one of the many people who are striving to raise awareness about asbestos and the illnesses that have been linked to the harmful substance.

Wood reportedly worked as an insulator for several years and recently lost his son to mesothelioma, a fatal form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

“Losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to you, and I carry the guilt every day of knowing I exposed him to asbestos,” says Wood, who now trains employees in environmental safety and health.

“I applaud the Senate for recognizing the need to draw more attention to this important topic,” said Motley Rice member and litigator, John Herrick.
Asbestos has been an ongoing issue in South Carolina, from the Naval Base to the textile plants.

“Victims of asbestos-related diseases and their families have a voice and a message to be heard,” states Herrick. “They are uniting together to push for improved rights to treatment, research, and prevention.”
