A former coal miner, gunner, assembly line worker and mechanic in Michigan, has filed a suit against 49 defendants claiming he was exposed to asbestos during his employment.
The man claims that during his employment working in automotive repairs he was exposed to and inhaled asbestos fibers being released from the products he was working with.
Exposure Causes Mesothelioma
Robert Cooper was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an illness caused by asbestos exposure.
According to the suit, “The plaintiff’s exposure and inhalation, ingestion, and absorption of asbestos was foreseeable and should have been anticipated by the defendants.”
Cooper also claims that the defendants included asbestos in their products when alternate substances could have been used that were less harmful.
The companies allegedly failed to provide any safety methods for their employees.
Asbestos Lawsuit
The suit states that Cooper has been caused to suffer and has lost compensation from other liable parties in the litigation.
The disease has reportedly disabled and disfigured the previous employee.
“The plaintiff suffers great physical pain and mental anguish, and also will be hindered and prevented from pursuing his normal course of employment, thereby losing large sums of money,” says the complaint.
Cooper is seeking at least $550,000 in damages for negligence and hopes to deter the defendants from acting so carelessly in the future with their employees.
