Two more lawsuits over asbestos exposure have been filed in West Virginia’s Kanawha County Court naming dozens of companies as defendants.
Mill Laborer/Coalmine Equipment Operator Sues
The first lawsuit was filed on the behalf of Calvin Burge by David Chervenick, Pittsburgh attorney. The suit, filed earlier this month names 67 corporations as defendants, including 16 from West Virginia.
Burge, from West Virginia himself, was a steel mill laborer and coalmine equipment operator.
As a result of his exposure to asbestos in his work, at various sites in West Virginia and elsewhere, Burge Claims, he has a lung injury, mesothelioma and asbestosis.
He was exposed to asbestos as a result of the companies’ negligence, the suit claims.
Burge seeks compensation for the damages he has suffered plus court costs and interest.
Asbestos Abatement Worker Sues
Robert Cogar of West Virginia, represented by John Skaggs of Charleston, filed his lawsuit earlier this month against 14 defendant corporations.
Cogar suffered several types of severe injuries to his lungs, cardiovascular system and respiratory system, including cancer.
He suffered all these injuries as a result of his exposure to asbestos during the course of his employment the suit states. During his work, he was required to handle products containing asbestos supplied by the defendant companies.
He also removed asbestos from piping and other surfaces and was thus exposed to harmful asbestos fibers.
The suit further claims that Cogar’s wife also suffered damages such as the loss of companionship, society, and general services of her husband ever since he became ill.
Cogar’s suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
