Father Files Asbestos Suit for Loss of Daughter

A suit filed by the father of a girl who died from mesothelioma, a form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure, was advanced to Tennessee high court last week.

The girl allegedly died from the illness due to second-hand asbestos exposure and the suit is holding his former employers responsible.

Girl Files Initial Suit

Amanda Satterfield, the daughter of Doug Satterfield was reportedly diagnosed with mesothelioma early in her life.

After being diagnosed, Amanda filed a suit against ALCOA Inc., and Breeding Insulation Co. Inc., claiming the companies didn’t warn her father of the harmful effects of asbestos.

“Amanda Satterfield was exposed to harmful asbestos dust and fibers from the day of her birth from her father’s use of asbestos products and inadvertent introduction of dust and fibers in their home and personal environments,” stated the suit.

Father Exposed at Work

Doug Satterfield was employed at ALCOA since 1973 and reportedly worked with and around asbestos products without being made aware of the risks.

Amanda Satterfield died in January 2005 at the age of 25.

After her death, her father was named representative of her estate and took over the suit.

Suit Seeks Justice

According to Doug Satterfield, this case isn’t about money but seeks to protect others and prevent this from happening in the future.

“How many people will have to go through what we went through? It’s not about money-it’s about what’s right. It’s about justice. She didn’t choose to die from this,” explains Satterfield.
