Asbestos Warning Issued at Monroe Library

High levels of asbestos have reportedly been found inside the Monroe library in New Jersey and Mayor Michael Gabbianelli has issued a warning and ordered air tests to be done.

The asbestos exposure was found in the library, which used to be the former Verizon building, and is currently undergoing renovations.

Air Quality Tests Required

When a study was done to measure the amount of asbestos at the site, results revealed that there was a three percent asbestos rating in the facility.

The federal limit for asbestos is reportedly one percent. After receiving the reports of high levels of asbestos at the library construction site, Mayor Gabbianelli authorized an air quality examination to be conducted.

Workers Warned and Tested

“Today, we are contacting all township employees, including our summer and student hires, in an effort to notify anyone who may have been in the building or in contact with the building this past year,” explained Gabbianelli.

The town has also joined together to provide employees with medical screening and to answer any questions they may have about asbestos and the risks associated with exposure.
