A Mesothelioma and Asbestos Information and Treatment Center Resource
A former teacher’s family recently settled in an ongoing suit involving the teacher and several defendants who were accused of exposing him to asbestos.
The Suit
Daniel Malcom, a former high school teacher from Bloomington, Indiana, and his wife Nancy reached a settlement in a case that was filed last year against Abex Corp, a manufacturer of asbestos as well as several other defendants.
Malcom, who worked at Bloomington High School for over 20 years as well as worked a side job at a plant, claimed that he was unknowingly exposed to asbestos while working at both jobs.
A year after he began working at the foundry, Malcom developed meothelioma, a disease that is commonly linked with asbestos exposure.
The Settlement
The settlement was not reached before Malcom’s death in March, but according to court reports, $3.8 million was just awarded to his family.
The settlement money will be given to Malcom’s wife to compensate for her late husband’s medical expenses and for her tremendous loss.
