Boulder Colorado Apartment Fire

After a fire erupted at an apartment complex in Boulder, CO, asbestos was reportedly discovered on the property.
Since the discovery, residents are being forbidden to enter their homes to collect their belongings until sometime next week.

Building Tests Positive for Asbestos

Authorities reportedly took air samples from the units that burned in the fire and found that the air tested positive for asbestos.

Asbestos is a cancer-causing substance that was typically used in the construction of buildings until the 1970’s when it was banned for use in America.

Clean-Up Required

Crews are now being brought onto the property to remove the asbestos and run more tests on the building to ensure resident safety.

According to Dave Lowrey, the Fire Marshall in Boulder, the clean-up is expected to take at least a week.

“The building is considered unfit to live in,” says Lowrey.

Residents Concerned

Tenants of the contaminated building were told that they could return to gather their things after the fire occurred.

However, after the testing, officials aren’t allowing anyone near the site until the asbestos problems are under control. “I will be looking for another place,” says Jamie Smith, who lived at in one of the apartments thought to be dangerous.
