Boulder Residents Displaced due to Asbestos

Residents in Boulder, CO, have been forced out of their apartments after a building fire exposed asbestos problems on the property.

The fire broke out at Boulder’s Hill House Apartments and residents won’t know if anything is salvageable until midweek at earliest due to asbestos concerns.

People Forced from Homes

The fire, which took place Saturday, forced 50 residents, mainly University of Colorado students, from their homes.

Although there have been no reports of injury, it’s expected that some may have lost everything and whether or not residents are at risk of asbestos exposure is still being questioned.

“This is incredibly traumatic,” stated Bronson Hilliard, a spokesman for CU.

Asbestos Discovered by Crews

According to reports, asbestos was discovered by work crews in the drywall mud following the fire.

Health officials are now saying that belongings may not be salvageable due to asbestos contamination.

Residents won’t be allowed to return to the apartment building until the air quality tests that were taken are reviewed.
