California Couple Files Asbestos Lawsuit

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

A couple living in California filed an asbestos lawsuit against 55 defendant corporations, claiming that the husband was wrongfully exposed to asbestos. Aryid and May Johnson filed the lawsuit Sept. 25 after Aryid was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer.

Asbestos Exposure in the Workplace

The lawsuit claims that Aryid was wrongfully exposed to toxic asbestos fibers during employment with various companies including the U.S. Navy, Ace Hardware and several filling stations. The suit argues that Aryid’s exposure was foreseeable and could have been prevented.

Couple Seeks Compensation from Defendants

The couple claims that the asbestos-caused cancer has disabled Aryid and has prevented him from working. In addition to medical bills, they are also seeking compensation for lost wages and for the loss of future financial support. The suit also seeks compensation for present and future emotional losses such as pain and suffering experienced by both Aryid and May.

The couple is seeking $100,000 in punitive and exemplary damages and sums in excess of $50,000 for compensatory damages, to include the cost of the lawsuit.
