Danger of Exposure at Clear Creek

According to reports, a recent study conducted revealed that a 48-square mile area in central California contains toxic asbestos.

Since the discovery of this carcinogenic substance, the area has been closed off to the public to prevent the asbestos from being stirred up.

Clear Creek Closed

The Clear Creek Management Area has been a popular attraction to residents in Central California because of its deep canyons, wildflowers and rock formations.

An estimated 35,000 people visit the area each year, even though Clear Creek has been known as having the largest deposit of asbestos in the U.S.

Clear Creek has now been labeled as a “death zone”, since researchers found that five visits a year over three decades could potentially lead to lung cancer and other crippling diseases.

Risk of Exposure

The asbestos that was found in the area is known as Coalinga chrysotile, a type of asbestos that's proven to be toxic.

Health experts are warning the public to keep away from this dangerous area and avoid drinking water from the creek.
