Bethel High School Closed After Asbestos Found

In Bethel, CT a high school was recently closed due to asbestos that was found during a renovation.

School officials were reportedly forced to dismiss students earlier this week to prevent them from being exposed to the harmful substance.

Tests Taken

Gary Chesley, the school’s superintendent, says that the town’s environmental consultant, Eagle Environmental, began testing the air as soon as the students were told to leave.

By performing air sample tests, authorities will be better able to assess how much asbestos is actually in the building.

Chesley reportedly sent a letter to parents and guardians of the students informing them of the potential asbestos problems.

Construction Workers Find Asbestos

The asbestos was found earlier this week by construction workers who were performing renovations on a building on campus.

When the workers opened a wall cavity to install electrical material, the asbestos was revealed.
