A Mesothelioma and Asbestos Information and Treatment Center Resource
An asbestos contract is currently being reviewed with Mid-Atlantic Environmental Consultants concerning asbestos problems at a local school.
The Weirton Finance Committee has joined with the consultants in reviewing an asbestos school inspection that was recently conducted at Cove School.
EPA Won’t Provide Grant
According to Chief Code Official, Rod Rosnick, the city of Weirton wasn’t given the grant they requested from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
They grant applied for the grant to help with the abatement and demolition of the school building, which recently became vacant.
“Mid-Atlantic performed the first phase asbestos inspection,” explains Rosnick. “Regulations say we need someone to go in for the second phase before we abate.”
Second Abatement Needed
Rosnick says that the second inspection they are hoping to proceed with will help to mark the specific areas of the buildings where asbestos was found.
By doing this, they are hoping to ensure the company removes all of the asbestos so the residents in the surrounding neighborhoods are no longer concerned.
