The Department of Environmental Quality recently filed a suit against the Northern Hotel in Billings for supposedly violating asbestos laws.
The violations were regarding a condominium project that is now under foreclosure in Livingston.
Guest House Accused of Asbestos Violations
The lawsuit, which was filed early last week, accuses the Guest House of violating six different asbestos laws.
The asbestos violations reportedly occurred during renovation work that was being conducted on the property between July 2006 and February 2007.
Project Fined for Violations
The project, which is owned by developer Hassan Kangarloo, was fined 64,000 for failing to have an asbestos inspection and an asbestos permit.
The suit also accuses the company of failing to follow proper asbestos work practices and for failing to hire an accredited asbestos contractor.
Kangarloo has been charged with five violations for over 133 days of failing to comply with asbestos laws and with an additional violation for another day.
If the judge finds him guilty, Kangarloo will reportedly face up to $6 million in fines.
