EPA Puts Millions of Homeowners at Risk
A report that is set to be release later this month, is going to expose the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its flawed examination and removal of hundreds of factories that contained asbestos.
Public health specialists claim that since the findings of asbestos contamination in the products manufactured by the factories, the EPA has failed to warn millions of homeowners that they may be exposing themselves and their families to asbestos daily.
Report Will Not Expose EPA Flaws
According to health officials, the EPA’s examination of the processed ore, which was used for insulation and was produced in Libby, Montana, used outdated research.
The EPA report will reportedly not mention the EPA’s faults with the asbestos problems or warn homeowners that their insulation contains the harmful carcinogen.
“It is unconscionable that the EPA would not inform the American public of the danger they live with by having this potentially lethal material in their homes,” explains Dr. Richard Lemen, director of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
Insulation Contains Asbestos
Lemen says that the insulation containing asbestos is well known to many, and the fact that the EPA is keeping this a secret from homeowners is “outrageous.”
The ore was sold by W.R. Grace & Co., typically under the name Zonolite.
Officials say it is impossible to predict how many homes have insulation that contain this ore.
Children At Risk
“Kids continue to play in it, “ explains Dr. Aubrey Miller, a U.S. Public Health Service Physician talking about asbestos, “Workers continue to work in it. Residents continue to be exposed to it and few, if any, have a clue of the hazardous nature of this material.”
In regards to the EPA’s alleged concealment of the insulation, Miller states, “ This is not how a public health crisis should be handled.”
