According to reports, a Miami-Dade County jury recently found Honeywell International, negligent for selling asbestos brakes.
Honeywell is the parent of brake manufacturer, Bendix.
Worker Diagnosed with Mesothelioma
Stephen E. Guilder, 50, spent most of his life repairing tractors and other farm equipment.
Guilder was recently diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, which is a form of cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure and affects the abdominal lining.
Family Files Mesothelioma Lawsuit
Guilder’s family filed the lawsuit against the brake company claiming that as a result of their negligence, Stephen’s life has been cut short.
The family received $24.2 million in the settlement, which was the largest compensatory jury verdict involving a single defendant in a Florida asbestos case.
However, according to David A. Jagolinzer, the attorney for the family, “They would trade every dime of that for another day of his life.”
Guilder’s oncologist says that his patient has a less than 10 percent chance of surviving beyond the fall of next year.
