Asbestos was reportedly recently found at the old Madison County Middle School in Georgia.
The cancer-causing substance was discovered during a renovation project being conducted at the school.
Renovations Delayed
According to reports, the central office at the school was told there would be a two-week delay due to the asbestos findings.
The removal is also expected to cost the school system an estimated $200,000.
However, school officials are now saying that the removal will only delay the renovations for a few days.
The removal is also now only expected to cost about $41,000.
“That’s much better than $200, 000,” stated Dr. Mitch McGhee, the superintendent at the school.
Not the First Time
A spokesman for the school says that this isn’t the first time asbestos has been found in one of the buildings.
The asbestos was found underneath some tiling and a professional abatement crew has reportedly been hired to conduct the removal.
