Georgia Widower Files Asbestos Suit

A widower in Georgia recently filed an asbestos suit against 84 corporations on behalf of his late wife who he claims was the victim of second-hand asbestos exposure.

The suit claims that the man’s wife died from years of exposure at work and from asbestos fibers on her stepfather’s clothing.

Lawsuit Details

The suit claims that Terry Jones and his wife Sherry were employed in clerical positions from 1974 to 2006 while Sherry’s stepfather was a maintenance worker.

Jones says that Sherry and her father would often work with products containing asbestos.

“Dust created by working with and around asbestos and asbestos-containing products would permeate the person and clothing of the Decedent and her stepfather,’ says the suit. “This dust contained asbestos fiber.”

Husband Blames Former Employers

Sherry was reportedly diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2006 and died 15 days later.

Jones is holding her former employer’s responsible for the illness and sudden death, accusing them of knowing that the asbestos contained in their products could potentially harm their employees.

Seeking Compensation for Loss of Wife

According to the complaint, Jones has “suffered damages in the form of impaired ability to recover against defendants.”

He is seeking compensation of at least $350,000 in damages for negligence and loss of companionship.
