Settlement Reached in Asbestos Case

The small Connecticut town of New Canaan finally reached a settlement with one of the parties that was involved in the asbestos at New Canaan High School.

A suit was filed after asbestos was found at the school during the renovation of the buildings.

Brook Laboratories, Inc. Settles

Earlier this week a spokeswoman for Brook Laboratories, Inc., Judy Neville, announced that the company would be settling and agreed to pay the complete amount of Brooks’ available insurance to end the ongoing case.

The settlement reached awarded the town a little more than $1. 8 million.

Brooks was one of four defendants named in the asbestos case.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to reach an amicable resolution with Brooks Laboratories, of our case regarding renovations,” Neville stated.

Other Companies Involved

David S. Golub, who is representing the town in their suits, says now that this suit has been filed, New Canaan can now focus more on their suits against the other companies involved.

O&G/AP Construction and Kastle Boos Associates have also been named in the asbestos problems that occurred during the renovation of the school.

Settlement Award

According to Neville, the $1.8 million will be used to pay the legal bills, consulting bills, and other expenses.

The additional $900,000 will go to the town.
