Ohio Company Fined for Illegal Asbestos Removal

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

A company in Toledo, Ohio was recently fined for allegedly improperly removing asbestos at a construction site.

The company was reportedly fined $12, 600 for the illegal asbestos removal that took place in Wayne County.

EPA Issues Fine

The Ohio EPA fined Total Environmental Services for supposedly failing to comply with the emissions standards set by the state of Ohio in 2006.

“The company failed to adequately remove wet asbestos-containing material that had been stripped down from Gourley Hall at Ohio State University’s Agricultural Research and Development Center,” explains a spokesperson for the EPA.

The Importance of Proper Asbestos Removal

EPA inspectors claim they discovered the violations after finding the contents of asbestos disposal bags left at the site.

When asbestos is in a dry state and disturbed, the substance breaks up into tiny fibers that can then be released into the air, exposing innocent people.

If asbestos is inhaled, it can pose serious health risks and even cause fatal illnesses.
