IL Couple Sues for Asbestos Exposure

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

A couple from Schaumburg, Illinois, recently filed a lawsuit against nine defendant corporations for wrongful exposure to asbestos.

As a result the man has developed an asbestos related illness and the couple is blaming his former employers for his current health problems.

Husband Exposed at Work

Thomas and Jan Sowers filed the suit earlier this week after he received a mesothelioma diagnosis from doctors.

Sowers was employed in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1973 and worked as a trained machinist.

He claims a majority of his work was done in the engine and in boiler rooms, where he believes his exposure occurred.

Defendants to Blame for Mesothelioma Diagnosis

The couple has named the U.S. Navy, along with Stone & Webster Engineering Corp., and Virginia Electronic & Power in the suit.

The Sowers believe Thomas’ exposure was foreseeable and could have been prevented.

Due to his illness, he has supposedly become disfigured and experiences a great deal of physical pain on a daily basis.

The suit is seeking compensation for his loss of wages, medical expenses, pain and anguish and for Jan’s loss of companionship.
