A Mesothelioma and Asbestos Information and Treatment Center Resource
St. Aidan’s church in Massachusetts recently began a project to remove asbestos after neighbors voiced concern.
Crews began working at the site after local residents complained about the impending demolition of the building and the asbestos they could were potentially being exposed to.
Asbestos to be Removed
Over the next couple of days, workers will reportedly be removing bags containing asbestos from the church to prepare to tear down the church and its two garages.
The Archdiocese-affiliated developer working on the project had reportedly promised to update neighbors daily in the upcoming weeks about the removal, but failed to inform them on the demolition date.
Residents Voice Concern
Officials working on the project say that contractors will be covering the work areas with drapes in order to test the church’s asbestos levels.
“I don’t want, 20 to 30 years from now, for the children to come down with cancer,” says Susan Feinstein, a Brookline resident.
Contractors will supposedly use air monitors to test around the site for both asbestos and lead and are required to stop the removal if unsafe levels of asbestos are found.
