Michigan Man Files Suit for Second Hand Exposure

A man living in Michigan recently filed a suit against 55 defendants claiming that he was the victim of second hand asbestos exposure.

The plaintiff says he was wrongfully exposed to asbestos fibers that became airborne from his father’s clothing.

Man Claims Wrongful Exposure

Charles Bird Mr.’s father was supposedly employed at Tetedyne Continental Motors as a factory worker and worked with and around products containing asbestos.

“Dust created by working with and around asbestos and asbestos-containing products would permeate the person and clothing of the plaintiff’s father,” says the complaint. “This dust contained asbestos fiber.”

Bird claims in the suit that the asbestos would get carried home on his father’s clothing where it would become airborne.

“The plaintiff would be repeatedly exposed to this asbestos dust from his father’s person and clothing,” says the complaint.

Plaintiff Diagnosed with Mesothelioma

Bird was reportedly diagnosed with mesothelioma in February due to his exposure to the asbestos fibers as a child.

The complaint claims that the companies are responsible for his illness because they failed to provide safety guidelines for their employees.

Seeking Compensation

Bird is reportedly seeking compensation in excess of $200,000, plus punitive damages for his wrongful exposure.

“An award of punitive damages is appropriate and necessary in order to punish defendants for their willful and reckless misconduct,” states the suit.
