Two New Asbestos Suits Filed Over Asbestos Illnesses

Two Illinois residents, who were frequently exposed to dangerous asbestos fibers while on the job, filed separate product liability lawsuits last week claiming they suffer from asbestos-related illnesses.

Dale Hanabarger and Linda Arnold alleged that their former employers failed to warn them or protect them against the large amounts of asbestos they were exposed to on a regular basis, causing them to develop serious, potentially life-threatening conditions.

Dale Hanabarger worked as a painter, sandblaster, and plasterer from 1973 to 2002 for Mark’s Plastering and Cole Industrial Paint Service. In June 2005, Hanabarger was diagnosed with bilateral pleural disease—a condition linked to asbestos.

Subsequently, Linda Arnold, who worked as a strand helper from 1987 to 2005, was diagnosed with asbestosis—another asbestos-related illness marked by chronic scarring of the lungs.

The lawsuit claims that the plaintiffs ingested or inhaled high levels of asbestos fibers that emanated from products they worked with during their employment in home and automotive repairs.

The defendants named in the lawsuits include Georgia-Pacific, John Crane, Kelly Moore Paint, Union Carbide, General Electric, Ford Motor Company, and Bondex International.

The plaintiffs seek an excess of $250,000 for their damages including pain and suffering, medical bills, lost income capacity, and more. Punitive damages over $50,000 will also be sought.
