A Mesothelioma and Asbestos Information and Treatment Center Resource
During the demolition of a house in Aledo, Illinois, construction workers reportedly found asbestos.
The home was recently purchased by the city of Aledo to develop an area for the public’s use on the property.
Asbestos Inspection Required
William Weckerly, who works for Graves Environmental Inc. of Moline, was reportedly hired to oversee the removal of asbestos from the site.
The firm was hired due to the fact that asbestos was found in the home, which was at one time rented.
“There wasn’t a whole lot there,” says Weckerly, “but because this is subject to environmental regulations, a competent person has to be here.”
Dangers of Asbestos
Asbestos is a known carcinogen that poses a great threat to human health when released into the air.
The substance is considered to be a hazardous air pollutant and is required to be regulated under the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP).
The Environmental Management Services of Iowa were also hired to oversee the removal of asbestos from the property.
