NJ Woman Settles Suit for $7.5M

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

A woman living in Linden, NJ, recently reached a settlement in the suit she filed against ExxonMobil.

She filed the lawsuit after developing peritoneal mesothelioma, which she believes is due to asbestos fibers inhaled secondhand from her husband’s clothing.

Suit Claims Second Hand Exposure

Bonnie Anderson claims that for decades she was unknowingly exposed to asbestos fibers brought home on her husband, John’s, clothing.

She says that she would wash his clothing when he came home from working at the Bayway Refinery.

According to the suit, John worked as a process operator at the refinery, which ExxonMobil previously owned.

Asbestos Lawsuit Filed

The jury found ExxonMobil responsible for Anderson’s development of mesothelioma, a fatal illness caused by exposure to asbestos.

The couple was awarded $7.5 million by the company for their mental and physical suffering and for past and future medical bills.
