Mesothelioma: 12 Essential Facts

Oklahoma Woman Files Asbestos Suit

Gertrude Law, an Oklahoma woman, has filed a suit against 107 defendants claiming that she now has mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure from her family’s clothing.

Lowe alleges that her late husband, Howard Lowe, and her father, both carried home asbestos dust on their clothing after serving in the army and working with products containing the harmful fibers.

The Accusations

After being diagnosed with mesothelioma, Lowe was made aware of the cause of the relation between the cancer and her exposure and decided to take action.

She is accusing the defendants of consciously allowing asbestos to be involved in the men’s daily work and blames them for her eventual illness.

Gertrude Lowe claims that the defendants:

  • Intentionally included asbestos in their products knowing that it was toxic
  • Did not provide accurate warnings and safety guidelines for those working around asbestos
  • Included asbestos in products when substitutes were available
  • Failed to run tests on the products that contained asbestos

Gertrude also says that the defendants destroyed all files with evidence related to asbestos exposure on their work grounds.

Lowe is seeking $200,000 in compensation, along with punitive damages.
