Building at OSU Faces Asbestos Problems

Reports reveal that asbestos was found at the Murray Hall renovation project at Oklahoma State University.

According to officials from the school, they are not surprised by the discovery since asbestos was reportedly used to insulate piping through the university building’s walls.

Building Constructed with Asbestos

According to Mike Buchert, a long range planning director, Murray Hall was built with insulation that contains asbestos.

“It’s very common to be there in all of our buildings,” explains Carrie Hulsey-Greene, the assistant director of communications at OSU.

Removal Being Conducted

Buchert claims that the asbestos in Murray Hall and the architecture building have already been removed.

However, the pipes are also surrounded by asbestos and need to be removed and replaced to prevent any harm from being done.

Dangers of Asbestos

Asbestos has been proven to be extremely harmful when ingested and inhaled and has been linked to fatal illnesses like mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Buchert claims that the buildings were not open to students at the time of the discovery since they were under construction.
