Asbestos Supervisor Sentenced for Illegal Removal

A man living in New Jersey was recently sentenced for illegally removing asbestos pipe insulation from a school in Philadelphia.

The man was reportedly sentenced to three years probation, including six months of confinement, and fined.

Inspector Violates Asbestos Procedures

Branko Lazaic was the supervisor in charge at the Mattison Elementary School.

Lazaic and his company were reportedly responsible for removing the asbestos throughout the school but failed to do so in accordance with the Clean Air Act.

The accused man supposedly allowed another person to supervise the asbestos removal, fully aware that the job would be done inadequately.

Plaintiff Pleads Guilty

Lazaic reportedly pled guilty to the charges held against him.

“Improper removal of asbestos in schools is dangerous and will not be tolerated. EPA will continue to do everything in its power to see that these cases are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” stated Donald S. Welsh, the EPA regional administrator for the mid-Atlantic area.
