A Mesothelioma and Asbestos Information and Treatment Center Resource
A recent lawsuit was filed against a construction company for the asbestos contamination that occurred during the remodeling of a school kitchen.
The suit claims that the asbestos exposure that occurred at Grant Community School was more widespread than officials initially thought.
School Contaminated with Asbestos
Salem-Keizer School District has filed the suit against Woodburn Construction Co. for $209, 000 and blames the company for releasing asbestos at the school twice during its project.
When district officials initially made the contamination public, they claimed that the asbestos was only released in the school’s kitchen.
However, upon further investigation, they found asbestos dust in the lobby hall and several classrooms.
Suit Filed Claiming Exposure
The suit filed by the district, claims that after asbestos was piled near the cafeteria door, the harmful substance sat there for days exposing students and faculty.
The suit is asking for compensation for cleanup costs as well as the money needed to finish the remodeling project.
