SDG&E Still Under Fire

A federal judge recently announced that he was sticking to his ruling that a new criminal trial should be set for San Diego Gas & Electric Co.

The asbestos suit, filed in July, involves two workers who have been convicted of violating asbestos safety standards.

Judge Asked to Reconsider Ruling

Prosecutors reportedly pleaded with U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw to reconsider the ruling he made requiring a new trial be set for the utility, David Williamson and Kyle Rheubottom.

David Williamson is an SDG&E environmentalist specialist and Kyle Rheubottom is a contractor who previously worked with the company on an asbestos removal project in Lemon Grove.

SDG&E Convicted

Last summer SDG&E was convicted of three counts of improper asbestos removal and one count of a false statement.

According to reports, Williamson and Rheubottom were each convicted of one count of improper removal and disposal of asbestos.

Dangers of Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos is a harmful substance that has been proven to cause a rare form of cancer known as mesothelioma when inhaled, ingested or handled.

Although asbestos has been banned for use in products there are still risks from exposure in certain work places, schools and homes throughout the country.
