Asbestos Suit Settled by Capitol Workers

Workers of the U.S. Capitol have reached a settlement in their lawsuit against the architect of the capitol.

The employees claim that they were exposed to a significant amount of asbestos while working in tunnels in the restoration of the Capitol Visitor's Center.

The Allegations

The 10 steamfitters involved in the suit claimed architect Alan Huntsman and other workers harassed them after they voiced concern about the obvious asbestos problem in the work environment.

According to court reports, the workers are already showing signs of deteriorating health from the asbestos.

Settlement Reached

The settlement, which was reached by both parties, was announced Monday and the compensations being given to the workers has not be released to the public.

Spokeswoman for the architect, Eva Malecki, explained that the settlement was an “amicable and final resolution” to the case.

However, the workers complain that the settlement still doesn't address the original complaints regarding the existence of the asbestos in the building.

The steamfitters have been lobbying Congress to enable them to receive worker's compensation for the anguish they have endured.
