Curtis Blake Phillips and Beverly Babin filed an asbestos lawsuit against Exxon Mobile on behalf of their father who died from lung cancer. The two survivors filed the suit in the Jefferson County Court earlier this month.
Asbestos Exposure at Work
According to the suit, Omar Phillips was wrongfully exposed to high levels of asbestos during his employment with Mobile Oil. Phillip’s children claim he was a pipe-fitter and welder for the company and was exposed to the toxic fibers against his knowledge.
Suit Accuses Exxon Mobile of Negligence
According to the lawsuit, Exxon Mobile was fully aware of the harmful effects of asbestos exposure, but knowingly failed to warn its employees of the dangers of the toxic dust and fibers.
The suit also claims that the defendant corporation should have provided its employees, including Phillips, with proper training on how to safely handle asbestos and other hazardous materials. This, according to the suit, could have prevented Phillip’s death.
Family Seeks Compensation for Their Loss
The plaintiffs are seeking compensation for medical and funeral bills, and for the pain and suffering Phillip’s endured as a result of the asbestos-related lung cancer. Curtis and Beverly are also seeking compensation for past and future emotional trauma they have personally suffered as a result of their father’s diagnosis and death.
