Woman Files Suit Claiming Asbestos Exposure

A woman living in West Chester, OH, recently filed a suit against 72 defendants claiming that she was the victim of second-hand asbestos exposure.

The suit states that the companies named are responsible for the airborne asbestos fibers the woman inhaled from her father’s clothing.

Father Exposed at Work

Robin Seward states in the suit that her father was employed by Fox Paper in Lockland, OH, and on several occasions would be forced to work with and around products containing asbestos.

Seward says her father carried the asbestos home on his clothing.

“Dust created by working with asbestos-containing products would permeate the skin, hair and clothing of both the plaintiff and her father,” says the complaint.

Daughter Diagnosed with Mesothelioma

In 2005, Seward was diagnosed with a fatal form of cancer known as mesothelioma, which is caused by asbestos exposure.

The complaint blames the defendants for the woman’s illness due to the fact that they “failed to require and advise their employees of hygiene practices designed to reduce or prevent carrying asbestos fibers home.”

Seeking Compensation

Seward is reportedly seeking compensatory damages in excess of $700,000, along with punitive damages.

“An award of punitive damages is appropriate and necessary in order to punish defendants for their willful, wanton, intentional and reckless misconduct,” states the suit.
