A Mesothelioma and Asbestos Information and Treatment Center Resource
The estate of a former mechanic, construction worker and laborer recently filed a suit against 48 defendant corporations.
The suit was filed after a father was diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Exposed to Asbestos
Lawrence J. McTaggart worked at various locations throughout Illinois and Missouri for more than three decades, and during this time his son claims that he was exposed to asbestos.
Lawrence E. McTaggart, the man’s son, says that his father contracted mesothelioma as a result of being exposed to asbestos fibers on a daily basis at work.
“The plaintiff’s exposure and inhalation, ingestion or absorption of the asbestos fibers was completely foreseeable and could or should have been anticipated by the defendants,” explains the complaint.
Lawsuit Filed by Son
McTaggart says that as a result of his father’s exposure, he developed mesothelioma, which disabled and disfigured him, before eventually killing him.
The victim’s son says, “great physical pain and mental anguish which hindered and prevented him from pursuing his normal course of employment, thereby losing large sums of money.”
American Standard, Chrysler LLC, Ford Motor Company, and General Electric are among the defendants named in the suit.
Family Seeks Compensation
McTaggart and his family are seeking compensatory damages in excess of $700,000, in addition to punitive damages.
“An award of punitive damages is appropriate and necessary in order to punish defendants for their willful, wanton, and reckless misconduct and to ensure these others won’t become victims in the future,” says the complaint.
